Important Event Information

Covid protocols at Ananda
  • All attendees have to undertake the RTPCR test not earlier 72 hours prior to arrival and submit the negative report 
  • All staff wear masks and other protective equipment as applicable
  • Ananda has 100 acres of lush area to soak in the pristine nature, with rigorous deep cleaning and application of disinfectants in guest rooms, spa, restaurants using UV equipment and public areas. 
The best way to reach Ananda 
A flight is the most convenient way to reach. Please book your flight to Dehradun Airport. Daily flights are available. Once you land, there is a 45 min picturesque drive to reach Ananda in the Himalayas. Travel from Delhi by road takes 4.30 hours.

Please plan arrival between 2 and 4 pm on Friday 17th September and departure by 11 am  on Monday 20th September
Alterations to Stay period

Event package is available for 3 nights. In the event of late arrival or early departure, the reservation will still be for 3 nights and event package price will remain unchanged
 
Accomodation for Chauffeur
Ananda doesnt offer any accomodation for chauffeurs. The nearest accomodation will be avilable at Rishikesh. Our team will be happy to guide you to the best avenues. 
 
Stay Inclusions
The package prices include music concerts, events, accommodation, all meals and applicable taxes. Airport transfers, in-room dining, spa treatments, laundry and other hotel services are chargeable as per actuals.

Begum Parveen Sultana
 One of the senior-most artists in the country today, Begum Parween Sultana is one of the most sought-after classical vocalists in India. On stage from age 12, Parween Sultana has also lent her voice to Bollywood films like Pakeezah and Razia Sultan.   Much awarded, her uniquely melodious voice, has mesmerised many and she has carried the torch of the illustrious Patiala gharana for decades.

Aruna Sairam
Modern, versatile, traditional - many words that describe the brilliance that is Aruna Sairam.  Open to new musical ideas, this legendary artist has delighted audiences the world over - constantly experimenting and yet rooted in tradition. A student of the vocalist maestro T Brinda, she has also been mentored by M. Balamurlikrishna, S. Ramachandran and was greatly influenced by Pt. Bhimsen Joshi.
 
At the Music Retreat, experience charm unlimited along with her brilliant versatility that will be on full display at the Himalayan foothills.

Shujaat Khan
Inheritor of the great legacy of his illustrious father Ustaad Vilayat Khan of the Imdadkhani Gharana, Shujaat Khan's unique style of capturing the nuances of the human voice on his sitar has captivated audiences worldwide. His silky voice , combined with the sound of his sitar , makes for an exhilarating experience.

At the Music Retreat, discover Shujaat Khan up close and personal not just through his performance but as he shares the intricacies of his art at Ananda’s beautiful Hawa Mahal.
 
Prasoon Joshi 
Every thing Prasoon Joshi has touched , from Poetry to scriptwriting , from lyrics to advertising, from big ticket campaigns to film censorship, from writing insightful columns to writing books  - has been pure gold.
 
Despite being in the hurly burly of corporate India, of bureaucratic India, of filmy India, this man retains his sensitivity to the nuanced Indian life. His observations of what most would overlook are a testimony to a background of cultural awareness, small town sensitivity and a unique ability to figure out the pulse of the Indian life.
 
As mentor to The Music Retreat, as also an Artiste , we get a peek at the full force of his personality , his musical , lyrical ways and his versatile mind.

 

Ronu Majumdar
Belonging to the illustrious Maihar Gharana, Ronu Majumdar is a wizard on the flute. Taking inspiration from one of his guru’s Pandit Ravi Shankar, he is at his best when performing a classical concert and has performed, recorded and composed in the popular genres with equal ease. The lilting quality of his instrument is delightful, peaceful and exhilarating in equal measure.  

At the music retreat,  from meditating with the flute to experiencing the soulful Pahadi dhun, the mesmerising quality of his flute amongst the pine and the silver oak is sure to uplift the soul .
 
Jayateerath Mevundi
The Kirana gharana is so much richer for having Jayateerth Mevundi as one of its stalwarts. Influenced and inspired by his mother at a very young age, Jayateerath Mevundi comes from the Dharwar region where children learn Sa Re Ga Ma before they learn the alphabet. Inspired by the greats like Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Pandit Kumar Gandharv , Ustaad Amir Khan, Jayateerath has evolved a style of his own in which you hear strains of the legends interpreted by him to make it his own.
 
At the music retreat, Jayateerath travels all the way from Dharwar, Hubli to enchant and entrance with his Raagdari. The hills will indeed be alive with the sound of his rich timbre.
 

Meeta Pandit
Talent, lineage, grace - Meeta Pandit is a prominent artist of the glorious Gwalior gharana. The first woman to take up music professionally in her illustrious family of six generation musicians, Meeta has been enthralling audiences in India and abroad.

The granddaughter and disciple of Pt Krishnarao Pandit and daughter of the illustrious Pt. LK Pandit, Meeta has been much awarded over the years for her accomplishments in music, teaching and writing.

At the music retreat, Meeta will take the stage in the morning at her devotional best.



 


Dhanashree Pandit Rai
Musician, academician, teacher: These are just some of words that describe Dhanashree Pandit Rai.
Mentored by Pt. Feroz Dastur and the legendary Shobha Gurtu - Dhanashree is known for her eloquence and her ability to explain her art to music lovers who are keen to learn. Her TEDX talks, her workshops all come alive with lively commentaries and demonstrations of Hindustani music.

At the music retreat, Dhanashree spends the afternoons with those keen to imbibe, learn and understand the nuances of raga’s and thumris
 
Pratibha Singh Baghel
Most people who saw Mughal-e-Azam the musical, came away impressed with a powerful voice.  As Bahaar in the play, Pratibha Singh Baghel captured the applause of audiences and was then cast in Umrao Jaan Ada, the play, in the main role. Known as the Voice of Manikarnika , she has now sung many numbers for films

Chedkhaniyan , a song composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy for the musically enriched web series Bandish Bandits, became very popular and  Pratibha is now a well-known name in musical circles.

At The Music Retreat, Pratibha Singh Baghel, shows us the versatility of her singing skills. From famous Thumri’s to Classical raga based film songs, her presence at Ananda will surely be a source of delight for the audience.
 

Abhay Sharma and Rhytem Bansal
 
Abhay has been playing the saxophone for various music scenes since he was fifteen. A student of Jazz and Blues, Abhay is the Saxophonist, composer and songwriter at The Revisit Project, and also plays sessions for Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Vishal and Rekha Bhardwaj and Adnan Sami.

Rythem has been playing the piano since the age of 16. Having associated and performed with numerous artists & bands all over the country, he has gained a reputation of first-call jazz pianist in New Delhi. Some of the current notable associations include The Revisit Project, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, Vasundhara Vee etc apart from his piano trio project that he leads.

Mornings at the Music Retreat

The mornings at Ananda are fresh and pristine amongst the trees and the birdsong. The diversity of the Uttarakhand Biosphere pine, cedar, magnolia grandiflora, imperial palms combine with the diversity of musical notes each morning. The charming spaces amongst the pines lend themselves to an enthralling musical experience each morning.

Morning Raga’s with Pandit Ronu Majumdar of the Maihar Gharana, a wizard on the flute. The lilting quality of his instrument is delightful, peaceful and exhilarating in equal measure. Yogic tradition, pranayama and mindfulness with Sandeep Agarwala from the Bihar school of yoga. A passionate proponent of traditional yoga who believes in the symphony of asanas, yogic cleansing, conscious breath work and mindfulness to create a unique balance. 

Daytime at the Music Retreat

September is the start of autumn at Ananda, a time to explore in the sun or just breathe in the exquisite pure air in ambience of foothills of the Himalayas. The days at the retreat are designed to be leisurely where you can find small sessions limited to an audience between 5 and 15 with the maestros in residence.

IMBIBE: As part of our Music-talks series at the retreat - From talking to Prasoon Joshi about his lyrical ways to understanding the nuances of Shujaat Khan's melodious sitar: the three days are full of delightful conversations and interactions on many musical journeys set in the scenic outdoor locales, or the historic ViceRegal Palace. Talk, absorb, learn, take in these precious moments with the maestros.

Terms & Conditions

  • Guests registered for The Music Retreat event will need to complete an RT-PCR test not earlier than 72 hours from the time of arrival reflecting COVID-19 negative report.
  • All guests shall mandatorily download and update status on the Aarogya Setu App.
  • All COVID related protocol shall be applicable including frequent temperature scans throughout the day, daily symptoms check, self-declarations and physical distancing norms
  • Event package once purchased cannot be exchanged or refunded however can be transferred to a nominee after informing Ananda in advance
  • If any guest/s registered for The Music Retreat contracts Covid-19 prior to the retreat and submits proof of such illness (RT-PCR positive report), they are entitled to either transfer the event package to a nominee (or) cancel their booking and receive a 100% refund of the event package price purchased.
  • In the event that the Music Retreat has to be cancelled due to Covid related restriction imposed by govt authorities or any force majeure event, or due to escalation of Covid cases and health and safety concerns, then 100% of the event package purchased will be refunded.
  • Nominees to whom the package is transferred are liable to adhere to all event specific policies.
  • The event package is for a total of 3 nights. Pro rate packages for 2 nights or 1 night are not allowed.
  • No existing special rates, promotions, discounts or commissions are valid on the event package rates.
  • A maximum of 3 event packages can be booked by one individual.
  • Alcohol will not be served to those below 21 years of age.
  • Outside food and beverage will not be allowed within Ananda premises
  • In order to preserve the tranquillity of the event, children below the age of 14 years are not permitted.
  • Use of spa facilities are available only to guests who are 18 years and above.
  • Artists currently listed as performing in The Music Retreat are subject to change
  • Prices are subject to change
  • Rooms booked for event customers are guaranteed from 1 pm on 17th September
  • If guaranteed room for early arrival is required between 9 am and 1 pm on 17th September, it can be provided with a supplement charge of 30% of the per day package price. 100% supplement charge if guaranteed early arrival prior to 9 am is required.
  • If guaranteed room for late departure is required between 11 am and 3 pm on 20th September, it can be provided with a supplement charge of 30% of the per day package price. 100% supplement charge if guaranteed late departure is required after 3 pm
